Designed by Roger Dean, the creative mastermind behind the distinctive artwork of million-selling albums by Yes and Uriah Heep, Journey To The Centre Of The Earth is a must-see show, a thrilling spectacle for all the family, to rival blockbuster presentations like Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds and Roger Waters' touring production of Pink Floyd's The Wall.

This new live show is set to thrill the millions who grew up with the original album and the many film and TV adaptations of the novel, and introducing Wakeman, Dean and Verne to a new generation of concert-goers.

Rick Wakeman's Journey To The Centre Of The Earth has sold over 15million copies worldwide. It sits alongside the most successful concept albums of the rock era alongside The Beatles' Sgt Pepper, David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust and Meat Loaf's Bat Out Of Hell. Its release in 1974 was arguably the high watermark of the progressive rock genre, currently enjoying a well-documented revival, and hugely influential on the likes of Radiohead, Elbow and Muse.

2014 also marks the 150th anniversary of Jules Verne publishing the original, Voyage Au Centre De La Terre, the best loved of his fifty-four Voyages Extraordinaires novels which also included Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea and Around The World In Eighty Days, timeless works that have been adapted time and again for the big screen.

More ambitious in scope than Six Wives it featured the London Symphony Orchestra and the English Chamber Choir, conducted by David Measham, Journey To The Centre Of The Earth was first performed and recorded live at London's Royal Festival Hall in January 1974. Issued three months later, its success defied everyone's expectations, including those of Wakeman's label. The album went on to enjoy gold and platinum sales across the globe. Wakeman also received an Ivor Novello Award for Journey To The Centre Of The Earth.

For many years, the original conductor's score for Journey To The Centre Of The Earth was thought to have been lost, making any attempt to revive this seminal work impossible. However, in 2008, Wakeman took delivery of a box that arrived out of the blue from New Zealand. At the bottom, he found the original Journey To The Centre Of The Earth score that had suffered some water damage. With the help of conductor Guy Protheroe, he repaired and revisited the documented compositions and put them in a form that enabled him to celebrate its anniversary in an appropriate manner. Engaging the Jules Verne Symphony Orchestra and Choir as well as actor Peter Egan, best known for his role in the British sitcom Ever Decreasing Circles, he recorded a new version of Journey To The Centre Of The Earth at London's famed Abbey Road Studios. In November 2012, the expanded work was published in a fan-pack, together with a copy of the 1974 Royal Festival Hall concert programme, and became a collector's item.

The new live arena presentation of Journey To The Centre Of The Earth will commence touring in April 2014, with over 100 dates planned around the world. The first outing will focus on a gala showcase date at London's Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday 30th April 2014.

The live arena show will present the narrative and music over a two-hour performance with interval. Rick Wakeman with appear with his electric band, The Jules Verne Symphony Orchestra and Choir and narrator. Wakeman has combined the original and revised material with Return To The Centre Of The Earth, the sequel he recorded in 1999, thus creating an even more compelling story and spectacular show. Return To The Centre Of The Earth enjoyed extraordinary success in 2006 when Wakeman, accompanied by an orchestra and a choir, presented the work at the Plains Of Abraham, in Quebec City. Incorporating screen projections as well as a battery of fireworks and special effects, the son et lumiÞre extravaganza reunited him with his Yes colleague, the vocalist Jon Anderson, and attracted a sold-out audience of 50,000 music fans.

The new Journey To The Centre Of The Earth show will include state-of-the-art graphics and jaw-dropping visuals by Dean, to be projected on huge screens and backdrops at every venue. Internationally renowned for the fantasy landscapes and eye-catching logos he created for Yes, Asia and Uriah Heep, Dean is responsible for all of the graphics and designs and is also Creative Director for the stage presentation.

Ahead of the live outing, Journey To The Centre Of The Earth will be trailed in a ten-minute calling-card format with Wakeman, the band, orchestra, choir and full on-screen Roger Dean visuals at every arena performance of The Night Of The Proms in Europe in November and December 2013. The Night Of The Proms is Europe's biggest live music indoor event and includes over 25 arena dates across Greater Germany, Holland and Belgium, playing to a combined audience of over 300,000 every year. The concept of presenting a live trailer in arenas prior to its extended major outing is a live sector first, and commensurate with the multi-media, big spectacle appeal of 'Journey to the Centre Of The Earth'.
